Exploring the 16 Zen Bodhisattva Precepts - Session II

The root of Buddhist practice in the world is ethical conduct, and it is supported through our practice of Zazen on the cushion and by working with the 16 Bodhisattva Precepts.

Led by ZDS Resident Teacher Dan Dorsey, this four-week workshop on November 1, 8, 15 & 29 is an opportunity to personally explore the Zen Buddhist precepts through reflective writing and group discussion.  This is an experiential series where each participant will work with the precepts, uncovering his or her own understanding and meaning.

Some Zen students choose to deepen their relationship with the precepts by formally "receiving the precepts" in the ceremony of Jukai or some people who have taken the precepts already may want to re-examine their original precepts. People who have received the Precepts wear a rakusu during zazen, the black bib-like garment that is a miniaturized version of the Buddha's robe, the robe of liberation. For those who might be interested, Dan will explain how one might further pursue the process of jukai, and he will be offering the ceremony at the end of retreats and other times during this next year. Taking this class does not require you to participate in any ceremony; it is for anyone who is interested in the precepts on a more experiential level.

Participants are requested to attend all four sessions if possible. $5 dana per class requested, but no one will be turned away for lack of funds.

No advance notice is necessary -- just come and learn.
