This one day retreat, open to both new and seasoned practitioners, offers an intensive opportunity for meditation practice guided by a ZDS Resident Teacher. As with our regular weekly practice periods, seated meditation alternates with walking meditation, along with sutras and opportunity to meet individual with the teacher in dokusan. Both breakfast and lunch meals are included.
Pre-registration by 12/12/15 is required. To register or for more information, contact Joann Schultz, 520-490-9474 or email@example.com. Cost is $35 for ZDS members and $40 for non-members. (Financial assistance is available on request.) Payment of a $15 deposit confirms your registration, and can be mailed to Zen Desert Sangha, P.O. Box 44122, Tucson, AZ 85733-4122 -- or drop a check or cash into the black donation box on the wall at the zendo at 3226 N. Martin Ave. Please contact Joann so that she adds your name to the list.
For those unable to sit the full day, part-time attendance is possible. Contact Joann to arrange an adjusted schedule.
Please note that zazenkai registration closes on the Wednesday before the zazenkai. If you have registered and then find you are unable to attend, please cancel by Wednesday prior to the event. If you cancel after Wednesday (or simply do not attend), ZDS will collect the $15 deposit. This is so that we can manage food and other planning.
Dan's dharma talk at 2:30 pm is open to the public. To attend, please arrive at about 2:20 and wait in the carpeted room to be ushered into the zendo.
This zazenkai will conclude with jukai for a sangha member. Jukai is an ordination ceremony where a student publicly receives Buddhist precepts. The ceremony will begin at 3:20 and is open to visitors. Visitors may either come to the dharma talk and stay on, or arrive no later than 3:15 pm to attend just the jukai. The zazenkai will conclude with tea at 3:45 pm.
