ZDS past-President Kim Howell, following Kim's jukai ceremony, with ZDS past-President, Greg Anderson (Greg is here shown pressing the button on the camera marked... "Detonate!"). -- Photo by JM.

Kim, reviewing some of the photos of the day in the display window of her digital camera, seen wearing her rakusu, with wood rakusu ring made by Joe Montani from wood grown and harvested from the grounds of the ZDS zendo. Ring is also featured in sub-page: (...click here for rakusu ring photos). Photo by JM.

Just before the final zazen period of the Rohatsu sesshin began, the sky in the desert opened up and a gentle and generous rain fell, and continued during Kim's Jukai ceremony. Following the ceremony, the sun was out bright, and many water drops on the bottoms of the beams over the Zen Garden at Picture Rocks caught the sunlight and gleamed. This seemed a wonderful echo of an image of a crystal-beaded rosary, and the Jewel Net of Indra, and seemed as well an auspicious gift of precious water to the desert, and to the plants which Kim so devotedly cares for at the ZDS zendo and elsewhere.
